Rand und die Rechte

Brian Doherty schreibt im Wallstreet Journal über "Rand und die Rechte" und präsentiert Ayn Rand als "Fan" des republikanischer Politikers Barry Goldwater (Goldwaters Buch "Das Gewissen eines Konservativen" ist heute antiquarisch noch zu bekommen). Das Wort "Fan" suggeriert allerdings eine vorbehaltlose Unterstützung für Goldwater, die es so nicht gab. Rand war allenfalls ein Fan von Goldwaters außenpolitischen Vorstellungen, noch konkreter seines außenpolitischen Anti-Kommunismus. Doherty zitiert aus einem Brief von Rand an Goldwater aus dem Jahre 1960 ("I regard you as the only hope of the anti-collectivist side on today's political scene, and I have defended your position at every opportunity."), beendet dieses Zitat aber ausgerechnet dort, wo Rand anfängt, ihre Einwände gegen verschiedene Positionen von Goldwater darzulegen. Das vollständige Zitat lautet: I regard you as the only hope of the anti-collectivist side on today's political scene, and I have defended your position at every opportunity.
